If you know someone with a learning disability then you may notice that they don’t take part in activities with other people. From childhood, people with learning difficulties tend to shy away from doing activities with others and would rather do their own thing. As this continues children become less social which makes it more difficult for them as they get older. People living with a learning disability should not feel like they are unable to participate in activities. Learning disabilities do not affect someone’s ability to participate in activities. Some activities that people with learning disabilities may like to take part in are:
Drama Activities for People with Learning Disabilities
Acting activities are great for people with learning disabilities because there are many ways that they can get to become more confident by taking part in certain activities. Whilst doing drama activities you can become more relaxed when talking to people in the room. Drama activities are great for getting people to become more comfortable with each other as the activities and games can be fun as well as make you feel less shy.
People with learning disabilities tend to take part in art activities because there is no right or wrong when it comes to art. Every individual person has their own perspective when it comes to art. For people with learning disabilities that cause them to be easily distracted and very energetic art is a great way to calm them down as it involves a lot of concentration and silence. This means that they can do something they can enjoy as well as join in with other people without feeling out of place.
Dance activities are great for people with learning disabilities to join in because if they have disabilities that make them lively. This means they don’t feel as if they are out of place as everyone else would be dancing which means they can have a good time.
Sports activities are also great activities for people with learning difficulties to take part in if they are overactive. This is because it means they can keep fit and burn off a lot of energy along with other people. Taking part in these activities means people with learning difficulties feel as if they can make friends a lot easier and helps them to stop being as shy around others.
